Fredrik Soederbaum

Fredrik Söderbaum is a professor of peace and development research at the School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg, and a Senior Associate Research Fellow at the United Nations University-Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS), Bruges, Belgium. He is widely published on comparative regionalism, politics in Africa, and EU’s role in the world. His most recent books include Contestations of the Liberal International Order: A Populist Script of Regional Cooperation (Cambridge University Press, with Kilian Spandler and Agnese Pacciardi, 2021) and Rethinking Regionalism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016). Söderbaum is a frequent consultant and policy expert to agencies such as the African Development Bank, the African Union, the Swedish government, the Swedish International Development Agency, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), the Expert Group on Aid Studies (EBA),  the International Task Force on Global Public Goods (Sweden/France), and the Swedish Water House.
 

 

 

Philippe De Lombaerde

Philippe De Lombaerde iDirector at the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) in Bruges since January 2020 and Associate Professor of International Economics at Neoma Business School (Reims - Rouen – Paris) since January 2016. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Maastricht (since 2013). Previously, he has worked as an Associate Professor of International Economics at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá), Researcher and Lecturer at the University of Antwerp, and as Researcher at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) (Bangkok), among other appointments. 

Mr. De Lombaerde (PhD, RWTH) studied economics, econometrics and political science at the universities of Ghent, Brussels (VUB), Antwerp and Aachen. His current research interests include: regional economic integration, international trade and investment, monitoring tools and indicators, Latin American and Southeast Asian regionalism, comparative regionalism, globalization and regionalization indicators. He has widely published in these areas; his publications can be consulted at: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Philippe-De-Lombaerde

hon justice professor obk dingake (phd)

Justice Dingake is a judge of the Supreme and National Courts of Papua New Guinea (PNG). He is the first African to be appointed justice of the Supreme and National Courts of PNG. He is also a judge of the Residual Special Court of Sierra Leone (RSCSL) appointed by the Secretary General of the United Nations in 2013. He was also appointed to the Seychelles Court of Appeal in August 2020.

Judge Dingake is a former judge of the High Court and Industrial Court of Botswana. He also taught law at the University of Botswana. He has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Pretoria, Cape Town and Institute of Development Labour Law, in Rome, Italy. In January 2019 he became the first African to become a William L Beatty Jurist in Residence at the Southern Illinois University in the United States of America. Judge Dingake has a PhD in Law from the University of Cape Town; an LLM from the University of London and an LLB from the University of Botswana. He has a number of post graduate certificates in international development studies and the political economy of development from the University of Oslo and London School of Economics.

Judge Dingake has been recognized as an exceptional and distinguished scholar by a number of Universities around the globe, including the University of Pretoria, Cape Town and James Cook University in Australia. He is a Professor of Public Law at the University of Cape Town, South Africa,  and Adjunct Professor of Law at James Cook University, Australia. He is a lead facilitator at the Judicial Institute for Africa, ( JIFA) UCT, Cape Town, South Africa. Judge Dingake is the author of several books, including: “ Judges”, “ Lawyers” and “ In Pursuit of Justice” - all available on Amazon.

He is currently the president of the Africa Regional Judges Forum on HIV/TB, Human Rights and the Law and Co-Chairman of the African Think Tank on HIV, Health and Social Justice. Judge Dingake has authored more than seven (7) legal books.


Nitish Monebhurrun

Nitish Monebhurrun acts as a Law Professor at the Law Faculty (Master, Doctoral and Undergraduate Programmes) of the University Centre of Brasília, Brazil, where his lectures range from public international law, international economic law, investment and arbitration, business and human rights to legal methodology.

He is also currently the Director of the Business, Human Rights and Public Policy Clinic of the University Centre of Brasília and a visiting Professor at the Universidad de la Sabana, Bogota, Colombia, where he teaches International Investment law and Arbitration. In addition, he has acted as visiting Professor/Speaker at the following institutions: School of Law of Sorbonne (France), University Paris V René Descartes (France), University Aix-Marseille (France), Austral University (Argentina), Universidad Nacional de Mexico (Mexico), Instituto Tecnologico de Mexico (Mexico), University of Middlebury (USA), Laval University (Quebec), Univeristy of Javeriana (Colombia), University of Dubai (UAE), KILAW (Kuwait), University of Salgacao of Goa (India), University Najaf Abad, Isfahan (Iran), University of the Mascareignes (Mauritius) and in many Brazilian universities.

He is the editor of the Brazilian Journal of International Law. He acted as of-counsel for the Ferreira Ribeiro Law Firm (2017/8) and worked as a United Nations Consultant for the Brazilian Competition Authority (2013-2015) and was an assistant lecturer at the Law School of Sorbonne, Paris (2008-2011). Nitish Monebhurrun holds a PhD in International Law (School of Law of Sorbonne, Paris: Thesis on the Function of Development in International Investment Law), a Master in International Economic Law (School of Law of Sorbonne, Paris: Dissertation on Legitimate Expectations in International Investment Law), a Master in International Law (University Jean Moulin, Lyon III), a Licence in Law (University Lumières, Lyon II) and a diploma from the Hague Academy of International law.


Ruth Teitelbaum

Ruth Teitelbaum is a specialist in international law and international dispute resolution. She is a member of the LCIA, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, an accredited CEDR mediator and a General Editor of Arbitration International. Ruth is fluent in Spanish, French and Portuguese.

Over the past twenty years, Ruth has served as an arbitrator, as an advocate for multinational clients with international arbitration claims, as counsel working for international tribunals and as an investor. Ruth’s academic work addresses a broad range of issues in the field of international law. Ruth’s recent publication, From Lena Goldfields to Crystallex: A Proposal for Collective Financing of Sovereign Award Debt, (Arbitration International) Tribute Issue in Honor of Johnny Veeder Vol. 2 (June 2021) was the starting point for her ongoing academic work on the creation of an ICSID trust fund for the collective financing of ICSID award sovereign debt.



Sandip Bhuckory

Sandip Bhuckory is an English-qualified solicitor who has worked in the London and Singapore offices of Allen & Overy LLP.  He has advised a range of clients in cross-border commercial arbitrations under the LCIA, ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, UNCITRAL and Finland Chamber of Commerce rules, as well as in the English High Court.  He also advises on public international law and in particular, international investment law and investment treaty arbitration.  Before joining Allen & Overy, Sandip read law at the Cambridge University.  Having grown up in Mauritius, he has a particular interest in issues faced by small and micro states, especially in relation to climate change and the law of the sea.


 

Godwin tan

Godwin Tan is a dual-qualified lawyer (English solicitor and New York attorney) at Allen & Overy LLP.  He advises on investment treaty arbitration, international commercial arbitration, public international law, and business and human rights.  Godwin has lectured on arbitration at several universities, including Harvard University, the University of Cambridge, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Singapore University of Social Sciences.  He has published articles in leading journals, including ICSID Review and the Cambridge International Law Journal, and a book chapter on developments in international arbitration.  Alongside his work as counsel, he is on the Committee of the Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre in Singapore.


Pranay lekhi

Pranay Lekhi is a public international law and international arbitration lawyer at Allen & Overy LLP. He is dual-qualified as an English solicitor and an Indian advocate. He has advised on issues relating to investment treaty arbitration, maritime delimitations and human rights. Pranay has been legal advisor to the delegation of the Republic of Maldives for the 41st session of UNCITRAL Working Group III, and the 63rd session of UNCITRAL Working Group IV. He was also a member of the Law Commission of India’s expert sub-committee analysing the 2015 Draft Model Indian BIT. Pranay regularly publishes and presents his research on key areas of international law, including nuclear disarmament and climate change.

 

 
 
 

DR. C. SAMANTHA JN PAUL

Dr. C. Samantha Jn Paul is an expert in government affairs, drafting laws, law reform, policy development and analysis, civil law practice, and related legal areas. She is an international senior-level legislative drafting consultant and attorney-at-law specializing in legal drafting and policy advice. She holds an LLM in legislative drafting from the University of the West Indies and a Doctorate in public administration specialization in law and public policy.

Samantha has extensive experience working as a legislative drafter in creating legislative frameworks as a legislative drafting consultant throughout the CARIFORUM States (Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Saint Vincent, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, Dominica, Grenada and Montserrat), international (World Bank, UNICEF) and regional organisations (ECCB and ECCU).

She has a thorough knowledge of the legal systems and conventions and legislative drafting practices in CARICOM, CARIFORUM, ECCU, ECCB OECS and other regional states with a Westminster Model, having worked both as a Consultant and Policy advisor regionally and internationally and also within the Public Service as the Director of the Legislative Drafting Unit and a Chief Parliamentary Counsel with the Attorney General’s Chambers in Saint Lucia.

Samantha provides a comprehensive service through her ability to interpret, research and draft legislation, agreements and treaties. She has also facilitates trainings, consultations and provides high-level specialised legal and public policy advice to senior officials - Prime Minister(s) and Cabinet, Permanent Secretaries/Ministries and other relevant offices.

Throughout her career, Samantha has completed a large range of projects in the rationalization and drafting of legislation for individual jurisdictions as well for multi-jurisdiction regional bodies. She therefore has a unique understanding of the intricacies of involved in achieving model legislation and the objectives of multiple stakeholders.
